Tourism in Chiriquí is recommended throughout the year, since regardless of the weather or the season, festivals are held throughout the year and activities worthy of first-person knowledge, such as whale watching, are held. The province has two types of climate, dry and rainy. The months with a clearer climate are between January and April, while the most temperate ones are between June and September. Currently we are in the month of March, we are in dry season with a warm but pleasant temperature, of approximately 34oC.
In March the weather can be very hot in the afternoons and balanced in the mornings. The sun can rise between 6 and 7 a.m. and hide at the same time of the afternoon. Rains in the province are very common in a few months because it is located in the highlands, but this does not affect the functioning of the city or impede the activities of main tourist attraction.
In the month of December the climate is very good for those fleeing the distinctive heat of the tropics. It’s known to be the lowest temperatures, so if this is a topic you’re worried about you can choose to vacation during this month. Panama is located within the tropics and in Chiriquí you will find coasts and beaches as expected, but you also have the option to access the highland region, where you will find the lowest temperatures in the whole country.
As for stationary activities, Chiriquí Marine National Park offers an excursion of whale watching and other species of marine mammals. This tour is not available all year round as giant animals remain in constant motion and travel immense distances across the ocean. You can discover them from May to the end of November. The park staff recommends that the best time to see the whales is between July and October, at which point they are most active.
